Let's make our home a better place!
Sicily is a gorgeous island but its cities have been struggling for decades. Streets and roads are full of trash, garbage bins constantly overflowing, bad smell and unsanitary conditions.
Growing urbanization has led to a surge in waste generation, placing immense pressure on local governments to manage this ever-increasing stream of waste.
While we must put pressure on local authorities to do much better jobs in managing waste, there is much that the public and private entities can do.
It's time to say BASTA!
Let’s roll up our sleeves, engage and do better.
We need to rethink consumption.
If waste is seen as a valuable asset consumers will strive to keep plastic bottles, cans, wrapping items in a circular economic model.
The more one earns with recycling, the more effort goes into waste collection.
Companies in Sicily must manage waste in a sustainable way.
The more producers are required to use recycled material, the bigger the market for recycled inputs and the faster the circular economy is formed.
This needs to be the link that connects, incentivizes, rewards and punishes stakeholders. Waste management must be a priority.
The vision must go way beyond collection and incineration, encompassing a larger strategy of reaching full circularity.
